KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media Outreach – January 26, 2022 – In response to the growing demand for air cargo capacity in the region, GEODIS, one of the world’s leading providers of transportation and logistics services, has significantly expanded its own AirDirect-operated network with three additional intra-Asia-Pacific (APAC) air routes. With a newly established hub in Kuala Lumpur, the logistics operator will integrate air services into its road network connecting destinations across Southeast Asia. The multimodal expansion builds on its strong momentum in creating diverse transportation options to customize supply chain solutions for its customers.

The extensive flight network, which connects Hong Kong, Chennai, Sydney and Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur, can carry an additional 320 tonnes of cargo per week. This will significantly ease pressure on supply chains, which saw load factors and yields reach historic highs in 2021, when freight capacity struggled to cope with increased e-commerce transactions. . With air freight demand expected to increase, particularly in the context of flight delays and cancellations in South East Asia following the impact of the Omicron variant, GEODIS believes its extended AirDirect schedules will become a key part of ensuring smooth, reliable and efficient air transport services in the Region.

The new flights will allow consolidated shipments across Asia, including cargo from key manufacturing sites in China, Malaysia and Vietnam, to transit through the Kuala Lumpur hub, enabling GEODIS’s three key services – AIRFLEX, AIRFAST, AIRSAVE – to be offered to customers, presenting options that balance transit time against cost, depending on individual customer needs.

“By enabling seamless connections with our extensive road network, linking Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, the multimodal hub of Kuala Lumpur offers highly integrated transportation solutions that not only circumvent disruptions affecting air and ocean freight flows, but also ensure that customer shipments can reach anywhere in mainland Southeast Asia,” says Onno Boots, President and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, GEODIS.

“Given the increasingly complex supply chain landscape that has affected the logistics priorities and needs of industries at all levels, it is more crucial than ever to complete integrated transportation networks on strategic routes. GEODIS’ new intra-APAC flight routes represent our enduring commitment to providing highly reliable and innovative solutions to help customers optimize their response to the e-commerce boom and plan their long-term business growth.”
